I draw my inspiration from an emotion and render it into art. From sketching to the confection of wearable art, it’s that emotion that permeates through the entire process, which ignites me. Yet there is a special sense of fulfilment when a subject awakens an emotion that inspires a silhouette in the imagination, then gets rendered into an illustration, to then appear as a completed garment on someone who has adapted my creation in their visual identity. This is my ultimate fascination with fashion as it requires so many artistic fields to accomplish a single piece. Yet in the end, the philosophical ideology that I wove through fabric manipulation and details gets reinterpreted by the wearer. And the emotion I once wished to convey no longer belongs to me, but rather those admiring the wearer of the piece.
Holding a Master’s degree in Communications and Marketing, MJ began a successful career in that field within the public sector. However, she was dreaming to pursue a more artistic lifestyle, which pushed her to travel and discover the world of European Fashion.
She developed a Made-in-Italy accessory collection and partnered with seasoned tailors to develop a line of men’s suit. This first collection landed her a fashion show in London during the 2012 Olympics. This propelled her to quit her lucrative Communications career and study fashion full-time in Paris at the prestigious Ecole Superieur de la mode et
du Design, which sensitized her to the couture and creation process based on les metiers d’art. She majored in lingerie to get an in-depth knowledge of garment construction and an eye for detail. She worked in luxury lingerie development for private customers. Her collection was featured in fashions show at
While in Paris she met the well-known fashion illustrator, and collaborated with him on a start-up fashion brand Modeste. This experience opened her eyes to the world of fashion illustration and style.
Upon her return to North-America, she landed a prominent position as head designer for the famous LA brand bebe to help make the brand profitable once again. Since here time there bebe’s sales have grew over 30% a year and new accounts have been opened, bringing in multi-million dollars in income.
Loving fashion Design, MJ always looks for new creative opportunities in fashion and design.
